Nothing helps keep the energy levels up than a little R&R… and having the opportunity to spend a little time in a warm, sunny climate in the middle of winter keeps this Chicago boy sane.  For the third time in as many years, I have had the occasion to spend some time in Mexico’s fabulous and affordable Puerto Vallarta and I thought I would share some of the highlights of this wonderful destination.

Each year a small group of friends gather in the sun and we choose a private condominium located on Playa Meurtes just off the Zona Romantica or the old town area.   The Zona Romanica is known for its great dining, unique shops and great nightlife.  The beach offers many activities (parasailing is the best time) and private palapas...

One of our favorite Chicago chefs has a birthday right around the corner! Chef Art Smith is turning 50 this year! The celebration will be held at the World Festival at Soldier Field on March 1st and will benefit Common Threads, a non-profit that uses cooking to teach children cultural diversity, nutrition and personal well-being. Culinary and cultural traditions from around the globe will be featured and Event Architects will be there celebrating with Art!

If you need a little Art in your life before then, be sure to stop by his restaurants, Art and Soul (located in Washington DC) and Table 52 (right here in Chicago) for the most amazing gourmet comfort food you've ever had.

Happy Birthday Art!

This new ELEVATE SERIES celebrates Event Architects’ commitment to elevating brands and event experiences. It also is a nod to our butterfly mascot! Basically the ELEVATE SERIES will pay homage to anything that is “fly” or actually can fly. (We’re having some fun with our figurative and literal word play.) Today’s post celebrates a phrase you rarely hear around Event Architects’ offices (because there is nothing we ever deem impossible), the phrase, “When pigs fly.”

This sarcastic response has become a clutch for cynics worldwide. We at Event Architects rather enjoy thinking we could make pigs fly. Okay, maybe we can’t make pigs fly, but we have certainly made the impossible possible on many occasions. To commemorate our “yes” attitude, we want to share some of the many ways pigs are being celebrated in our hometown, Chicago. (And the pig deserves it after all that bad Swine Flu press last year.)

The holiday season is already in full swing. We here at Event Architects have been busy planning executing some of the hottest parties for the 2009 holiday season. One of our favorite catering vendors to work with is Entertaining Company. The following article highlights some of my personal food favorites from the fabulous menus that Entertaining Company has worked with Event Architects to create for a few recent holiday events…

So, the hustle and bustle of the holiday season just isn’t enough for you with all of the gift buying an wrapping, card writing and mailing, pageantry and lights – but now you realize what you really want is to get together with the ones you love and have a stress-free holiday party.  Unfortunately, you didn’t factor the time to plan and create this party in between running to the mall and packing your bags to leave town.  Don’t let this become another stressful item on your never-ending list of to do’s.  A last minute holiday party can be simple to plan as long as you keep the purpose of the party as your driving factor.

The most important thing to remember about a holiday party is that your gift is not the food, the entertainment, or the location, but the experience of bringing the many people who make up your life together for an enjoyable, and most importantly, stress-free, evening.

You’ve got 100 guests looking for a chic, intimate lounge atmosphere on a budget… where do you go? Room 21.

This restaurant, turned event space, was once a distillery/speakeasy during the Prohibition period; and one of the first places to be raided by Elliot Ness and his crew as a way of getting to the infamous Al Capone. Rumor has it that the Room 21 name came from a discovery made during renovations of the space; a door to a secret escape tunnel that was labeled by a metal plate reading, Room 21.

Restaurateur Jerry Kleiner, opened Room 21 in 2007 with an upscale American menu, a nice addition to his fleet of restaurants. Kleiner’s restaurants are known for their vivid designs and Room 21 is no exception. The restaurant has since been closed and will now serve as a permanent event space; lucky us!

Host to some of NYC's chicest and most exciting events such as the iconic New York Fashion Week, Bryant Park seemed like the perfect place for EA’s Business Development team to tour and spend some time brainstorming events we could develop in the space.  The coolest part of exploring this venue was finding some of the most unexpected and unique spaces that are perfect for a variety of events!

We were inspired by so many different pieces of the Bryant Park puzzle. First, there are the elements that make it a community space, such as people of all ages interacting together while utilizing the chess boards, bocce courts and well-stocked outdoor children’s reading room. Then there are the natural elements of Bryant Park; the beauty of the greenery surrounded on three sides by the hustle of the city life and on the fourth by the history of the New York Public Library. And finally, Bryant Park has its own trendy, pop cultural side of it where you will find the tents that house New York Fashion Week and pop-up events such as the Southwest Porch

Who would have thought that the EA crew would be frequenting to Seattle as often as we have in the last few months? Fresh off a return a week ago, another EA team is traveling back to the city at the end of the week for a presentation. A couple weeks ago, I traveled with two of our Sales Managers, Kat Greis and Lucy Stratton, to attend the 2009 Microsoft Vendor Showcase in Redmond. While we were there for business, we didn’t miss an opportunity to take in the sights, culture, and of course, the tastes of Seattle. Be sure to check out highlights from Pike Place Market here

Despite hectic travel itineraries, our staff of foodies always make time for great dining excursions.  During the past few trips to visit clients, it remains a top priority for my fellow co-workers and I to also schedule a little time to enjoy the local culture.

Who doesn’t look forward to the holidays? Lights, music, presents and parties! But if you’re the one tasked with planning your company holiday party, my guess is that you often end up feeling more like the Grinch then a kid on Christmas morning. From searching the city for venues and caterers to worrying about themes and entertainers, while all trying to fit it in to a budget that would even make “The Office’s” party planning committee laugh, you can easily get burned out and lose sight of the season.
