Working with and delivering creative assets on a daily basis for clients always keeps our design team on the lookout for the latest presentation gadgets. When delivering assets, be it proposals, videos, audio or general creative elements, we always like to print custom, professional-looking CDs and DVDs to deliver to our clients. We feel it’s just one of those extra touches that shows professionalism and thoughtfulness—creating one of those “oooh ahhh” moments. Believe me, the little things like this say way more about your company than you would think.
The latest addition to our presentation arsenal is the DYMO DiscPainter. This gadget has been out for a while and honestly, we heard about it way before we decided to make the purchase. The website and testimonials are quite impressive and the demonstration videos really do highlight the cool factor. So, our need for a quick yet high-quality disc printer had become a priority and after a designer-friend in the business recommended the DYMO DiscPainter, without too much hesitation, we had one setup for the office.
The printer arrived in a compact, colorful box with all the materials you need to get started and printing in minutes–it even includes a few blank CDs to begin printing right away. The great news is the software works for both Mac and PC and setup isn’t that difficult. It connects to your computer via USB. The software is loaded with lots of pre-designed templates and easy to use features for adding text and photos. As designers, we prefer to design our own custom backgrounds and creative elements, but the DYMO software makes it simple for anyone to create great looking CDs and DVDs. This is one of the top reasons we recommend this product for non-designers as well.
From a quality standpoint, the DYMO DiscPainter kinda rocks it! It uses one small disposable inkjet cartridge, and can deliver some sharp looking imagery and crisp text. Of course, you have to invest in printable CD/DVDs; and we recommend the high-gloss finish to get the maximum effect on quality and appearance. Oh and can we mention just how cool it is to watch it print as the disc spins! You will definitely be taken back to those spin art days as a kid.
The only major drawback is the cost of the replacement ink cartridges. At $39.95 per cartridge, the cost can add up if printing graphics that require a lot of ink coverage or using a higher ink density setting. But overall, our team loves the DYMO DiscPainter—so much so that we bought a second one! If you’re an outfit that is continuously supplying your clients or vendors with CDs or simply like being the office show-off while burning your own personal discs, then DYMO DiscPainter comes highly recommended!
